ThriveCaps Aquarium Plant Root Fertilizer Capsules

Decent value - price & # of capsules.There were some reviews about floating tablets, but I bend it in half prior to putting it in the substrate & it fixed the problem. I used 3 tabs in my 15 gallon tab and had very little foam - barely noticeable had I not read other reviews that I wouldn’t have noticed. My problem is the capsules melted & became white blobs as I don’t have a thick substrate and it was unsightly for 2 days until it sorted itself out. Make sure to burry it deep and bend in half and you’ll have no problems. It also created a slight 0.25ppm nitrite spike so monitor your water parameters when using.Overall, I’ve noticed my plants are doing a lot better. The floaters have grown more roots. My tiger lily lotus finally came back to life after my fish killed it. My other tiger lily seems to have bigger leaves and is happy.

I’ve been using this for month and I would not get another root fertilizer. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do and it’s easy to apply. Super effective and the plants love it. Good sized tablets.Providing nutrients for a long time

My plants love it! I take a needle and carefully poke a tiny hole in both sides of capsule before I bury it in the substrate. That way it doesn't try to float up especially in sand substrate.

I’m in the middle of redoing my aquarium. I had pool filter sand while using seachem flourish tabs. The tabs turned my aquarium into a swampy mess and my sand smelled horribly like sulfur. I couldn’t get rid of the smell and my plants started dying back . I had to take action before all of my plants died off. I got rid of the pool filter sand then replaced the with black diamond blasting sand instead. Looks and smells better already. Hopefully these tabs are worth the while. Never using flourish tabs again, my old sand was perfect before

I have a heavily planted 55 gallon tank. I bought these because the capsules have a good mix of macro and micro nutrients. I use aquasoil for substrate. I use co2, liquid fertilizers, have a good light and I am diligent with maintenance.I first tried not poking a hole in the capsule first. That does not work well. They slowly work themselves back up throw the aquasoil and either break through to float up. Or they get far enough up that the capsule starts the dissolve and ballons up, out of the substrate and eventually releases all the good stuff into your water column.I then poked a hole in both sides of the capsule and did a slight squeeze to fill it with water. This works better, but it still annoys me that I have to do that to make it work. Still had a few that ballooned up through the aquasoil. For reference, each capsule was at least 3 inches deep.I did get a nice boom of growth that lasted a couple of weeks. Then I did a trim and after 30 days post-trim, the growth has been slow. I suspect that these capsules are better for a sand or gravel substrates, not aquasoil. I think I’ll go back to the slow dissolving tablet style root tabs. I’d rather have steady and reliable growth over 2-3 months. If Thrive makes a non capsule version, I’ll try it again because their nutrient mix has everything I want, just in a poor delivery system.

Loved this stuff so I just bought some amazon swords because that's the environment my angel fish come from and the first day I brought them home some leaves were brown and frail this is my first time owning a planted tank so I did some research and apparently this plant imperticular requires root tabs because they are root feeders I bought these buried two next to each plant and omg the next day I checked on the plants off the Rip the plants were as green as could be and looked great no more brown instead a healthy looking plant fast acting ! will buy more when the time comes

First thing I noticed when I received my new order of root tabs was that the bottle was different and smaller. Suspicious and a little stressed, I opened it to see it packed with the familiar root tabs I've come to love and trust. I didn't count them, but I can definitely estimate that they put 60 in there.My swords love these and I've never seen them grow bigger and greener on anything else. Awesome price for a reliable product.

Was hesitant about these after reading current reviews. But I can say for me no issues at all. I did not poke holes in capsules. I only pushed into substrate deep enough to not float up. It's been about 1 month and all strem plants have new growth and plants are even greener then they were. I currently run co2 as well but it is a large tank and I just needed something extra. I feel this was it. Will continue to use as needed. I'll update again after I use for a second time.

I’ve been using these since October of 2023. My Amazon swords and crypts love them. Better than the API ones in my opinion. I will continue to use them!

This a nice complete fertilizer. Even has iron.New to the aquarium hobby and this has really helped me get my plants growing

I was expecting something more like Seachem root tabs, and was shocked when I opened the bottle and saw actual pill capsules. Just a heads up so you know what you're getting.I've had these in my tank about a week, and I'm shocked at the growth I've gotten so far. About a month ago I switched to Thrive liquid fertilizer and last week this, and I've never seen this kind of growth in my tank. I was feeling so defeated, nothing was growing, many things were dying...but I've seen crazy growth since starting thrive products.

I have two tanks - one moderately planted with gravel and sand, and one heavily planted with sand. I swap plants back and forth sometimes, and the plants definitely grow better in the heavily planted, sanded tank. I figured root tabs might help the moderately planted gravel sand tank, and I have a couple of plants in the sanded heavily planted that would benefit as well.I started with Seachem Flourish tabs from my lfs just to get started. Pricey per tab. NilocG is well regarded in the community, so I checked them out. The full set of nutrients and price per tab made the purchase a no-brainer. I put several in at strategic locations throughout the larger, moderately planted tank.I quickly noticed a significant rise in nitrates. I suspected the NilocG tabs, and a bit of research confirmed this. This did not occur with the Seachem tabs. I guess that's the trade-off for a full set of nutrients. If you're dosing an all-in-one liquid fert, is a full dose of ferts necessary at the roots, or is just supplemental adequate? I don’t know.In the moderately planted, gravel and sand tank they seem okay. I have good target spots to put them; plant growth has been good lately. The ones under gravel seem to stay down under the weight, and I put it under a rock at the one sand spot.The other tank, however…I can't get the capsules to stay down at all. Ever. If my life depended on it. Can't do it. Tried every technique here including punching holes, and some others I thought up. They either erupt as I'm wrestling with them, or they will gradually crest out of the substrate. They semi-dissolve quickly, so if you don't get them in right away, trying to push them back will just rupture them. They attract my corys, though, and they're fun to watch. Besides the fun corys, about they only thing these are good for in my sanded, heavily planted tank is releasing fertilizer into the water column and jacking up my nitrates.

For best results pinch the pill with plant tweezers and make sure the pill gets to the bottom of the substrate before you let go. Also, plant the root pills one day before the next water change and you will be fine. I’ve never seen crypts grow so fast in my 25 years in the hobby. I’ve had these specific cryptocoryne wendtii red/green plants for 15 years. This product would get better reviews with better instructions.

A product I’ve wanted to try for a long time. I’ve heard good and meh things about them! Will update when I’ve gone through a bottle. One of the bottles I’ve ordered didn’t come with a lid though, so I hope I can jam all of them into one bottle!

Awesome nutrient rich root tabs. Easy to use if you know what you're doing too.Squeeze the air out of them before putting them in your substrate. If your substrate isn't very deep (at least 2 inches), you're gonna have a bad time.

Great for establishing roots. Would give 5 stars but they are hard to keep down sometimes.

I have twenty one aquariums, all of which have live plants. If I had to use $1 apiece Root Tabs I’d go broke! My plants are robust and colors vibrant. Amazon swords are producing offshoots for the first time ever. I have had none of the floating problems others mentioned. I just make sure they’re pushed well in.

I've been using Nilocg Aquatics fertilizers exclusively for 2+ years in my fish room of 58 tanks. All of his products are of the highest quality and the customer service is excellent. The results speak for itself....

Easy to use and it works. I have only just now started using it but my friend has been using it exclusively in his shrimp tanks for over a year. Make sure you bury them deep!

I really like these as a supplement to liquid fertilizers. I think they really helped my new plants root. That being said, you really have to make sure they go deep into your substrate or else they will float, bloat, and explode all over your tank.

I haven’t had them long enough to have any real feedback on plant growth. But I immediately had problems getting them to stay in the substrate. I know it’s common with capsules, but I have a good amount of substrate and nothing I did would keep them down. They all made their way to the top within 24hrs.
